delicious green smoothie recipe

My Instagram feed is often filled with beautiful photographs of delicious looking green smoothies. I love the concept of a green smoothie but I have a confession: I have tried many recipes and each time I have never managed more than a couple of sips before declaring there is no way I can drink any more.

However, I have finally found a recipe that I enjoy and I wanted to share it with you in case you feel the same way as me about green smoothies. I wanted to re-try a green smoothie after overindulging during the Christmas period.

Green smoothies are a really easy way to get a lot of goodness into your body and after a couple of weeks of overeating and allowing myself a few things that are normally off the menu, I was craving getting back to healthier eating.

To kick-start things, I’ve been eating lots of soup and salads and– surprisingly for me– I’ve also had a few green smoothies.

I have to give full credit to my husband for coming up with the below recipe. I believe he started out with this recipe, then adapted it to better suit our tastes.

After some trial and error, he hit the jackpot and came up with a delicious green smoothie recipe. I was convinced it was an avocado smoothie due to how creamy it was, but it turned out that the green colour was actually from kale. Kale!

I enjoy eating kale but any time it has previously been in a smoothie it has a been a no-goer for me. I couldn’t believe I had managed to drink a smoothie with kale in it, let alone actually enjoy it.

Kale is packed full of goodness: it is high in iron, calcium, antioxidants and vitamins A, C and K. The flaxseeds in the recipe also adds in omega-3s.

If you want to try it for yourself, here is my new favourite green smoothie recipe. This yielded the perfect amount to fit in my jam jar glass:

Delicious Green Smoothie Recipe

Yields: 1 serving

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1/2 ripe pear
  • 1 cup chopped kale (remove tough stems)
  • 2/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/3 cup coconut milk
  • 8 ice cubes
  • 2 teaspoons ground flaxseed
  • 2 tablespoons soya yogurt (or yogurt of preference)

  1. Chop up the pear, banana and kale, ensuring that you remove any of the tough stems from the kale.
  2. Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
  3. If your blender is small, you can add a few ingredients, blend, scrape down the sides and then add more in until it is all combined.

Enjoy and let me know in the comments if you try this green smoothie recipe.

Hello, I'm Donna. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2013 and started this blog shortly after. After my health declined significantly the following year, I decided to become my own advocate and searched for answers. It took two years but, in 2016, I finally discovered I had Lyme Disease. On February Stars, I share my personal journey back to better health; discussing what has helped me and the mistakes I've made along the way. I also cover topics on self-improvement, managing symptoms and living life to the fullest with chronic illness.

  1. Looks good! My favourite green smoothie includes half an avocado. It makes it really creamy. Dee-Lish!
